The Best Thrift Stores in Malasana, Madrid

Malasana has got to be one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Madrid with restaurants, bars, shops, however…their vintage stores keep me very busy. Having done my degree in Historical Costume and working previously selling vintage and antique items, you can only imagine how long I spend hunting for practically a new wardrobe in these thrift shops.

Not to mention, you can reduce waste and help save the environment as well as money. Its a nice feeling knowing your supporting charitable causes.

Calle Velarde is the main centre for the vintage shops and the store owners are super friendly and helpful.

Magpie Vintage

They sell clothes from the 20th century for both ladies and gentleman. They have sunglasses, jewellery, bags, clothes which I’ve been told that the clothes here get hired for film and television shoots if that's not enough to bring you to this store. Spend a day being a magpie looking for anything that glitters

The The Storage

If you like denim, this place is for you. The The Storage sell original Levi’s throughout many different decades as well as accessories displayed in vintage suitcases drawing in the traveller within me. They’re always getting new stock so every visit is a surprise.

Flamingos Vintage Kilo

Here they specialise in clothes made in the USA from baseball shirts, vintage jeans and leather jackets. I love American logos on the clothes. I'd say this is a unique vintage store. As you may have guessed, at Flamingo Vintage Kilo…you pay per kilo; depending on the weight of the items which on average tends to be 24 euro.

Malasana Vintage Outlet

This place is a bargain hunters dream! The outlet has clothes from La Mona Checa and Biba Vintage with up to 70% off. There are clothing racks full of stock but its too easy to find some beauties to add to your wardrobe!

Humana, Malasana

Okay, so Humana is the biggest second-hand/ charity shop chain in Spain and I know it's not exactly the coolest and hip place but they do have a good selection of high street, trendy and vintage pieces. I honestly really recommend giving it a try because it's so cheap and they get new stock all the time so there are always new treasures!

Biba Vintage

Here at this fashionable vintage store, you can find affordable clothing for men and women. It's well organised which means it's not difficult to search for items you really want. Biba Vintage has authentic and vibrant vintage clothing from the ’80s and before. Here they do pure real vintage and don’t mess about with replicas.

La Mona Checa Vintage Market and Art

You can't miss this place with its monkey logo and vibrant sign. It reminds me of the circus with its red and white striped fabric decor similar to a tent. They have sunglasses and some beautiful shirts and dresses with the most amazing vintage designs.

The Loop

Their tagline is ‘Fresh Vintage for Fresh People’ which sound super cool and quirky. You wouldn’t normally think of Vintage being fresh, but at The Loop, their vintage clothes are all on-trend, great condition and clean! They stock brands like Valentino, Calvin Klein and Moschino at a bargain price. It's more similar to a boutique than a thrift store which makes this unique.

I really think buying at a thrift store is an intelligent decision and a small price to pay ( literally ) when it comes to helping save the planet. You can save money, and find some unique pieces. Please let know what your best purchase was from a thrift store.
